Well healed

It was dismal, no sun only clouds. So, I found this one, it looks like it's healed after it was chopped down.

Tree Creeper (Cyril Hart Arboretum)

I went all over the Forest of Dean looking for the Hawfinch. But I couldn't find them. The one at New Fancy View, has gone or its just disappeared. It could be me! Great news, we have been given a gate for the wasteland in Lydney. Thanks to all who helped us, Mike Lane of Gloucestershire C.C. and Lydney Town trustees. A new place to go, and not too far either.

Brambling (New Fancy View)

An image showing the Brambling (male), with its black head. Slightly overcast and murky was the weather. So, that is how it came.

Moorhen (Lydney Marshes)

Going back a long time, I found that they had built a new pathway, for all public to use. Except, for those who have to ride a scooter, disabled to say such a thing. Its only "disabled", when the public don't realise this, but its a good thing when people put in ramps, openings for doors which allow them in/out and many more. Like the opening of gates to everyone, disabled and normality. At this point, the Gloucestershire county council, John Lane, are going to try again. I hope that this time it will work.

The Kingfisher's spot (Lydney Marshes)

I came here because the Kingfisher comes here to stare at fish. I was at the ready, I just have to wait and not move a muscle. For up to 3 hours before I will catch him. It really is coming.........

New Fancy Colliery Screens

I found this by accident, following the path which led to here. It is quite a monument, but as time goes by, it has disappeared. Oh well, its gone, and now there is a brick wall and a small post.

Coal Tit (New Fancy View)

This bird is so tiny, you would like to give a hand with the peanut. But, it's just brave. New Fancy View is open, it might have been open for a while, but I couldn't get there. The Hawfinch wasn't there, maybe I'd better ask somebody. It is really good to be allowed back.

Spring is coming

It certainly is coming, after last week, we were snowed up and desperate for the sunshine. This wasn't a sunny one, but you know what I mean. I think!!!!!!! Are we about to get on the spring wagon, lets hope so.

Tuesday 17 February 2009

Bullfinch (Lydney)

It's the weather, that's why its dark and gloomy. But, there was this that took my attention, a Bullfinch keeping a watch out while all the birds are having their nibbling.

Bracket Fungi (Lydney)

A beautiful shape to this Fungi, it's a real find. It grows underneath the trunk so it doesn't get so much of the sun. Well, I suppose that's what I think!

Saturday 14 February 2009

Chaffinch ( Cannop Ponds)

I didn't find the Lapwings in their spot, maybe they will come back. It was lovelly to go to Cannop Ponds, the first time since the snow. But, they still keep the gate locked, and I cannot walk that far. I will keep on trying.

Friday 13 February 2009

Lapwing (Naas Lane, Lydney)

I'll try a little bit harder to get a picture of the Lapwing (Peewit), tomorrow I think. There were 67 of them, and they could have joined up with a troop on the River Severn.

Black-headed Gull (Lydney)

It's standing on ice, a nice place. The lake is frozen, and there is more of it! It was almost gone, when, the freezing started up again. And then another, -2.7ºc did it.

Predator after Starlings

It's a bad picture, but I just that you would like to see. I think the predator was a Peregrine Falcon. Tell me what you can see!

Monday 9 February 2009

Milleneum Seat (Cyril Hart Arboretum)

It's a beautiful morning, the trees are producing green leaves. The sun is also out and shining on everything. Am I dreaming...................

Sunday 8 February 2009

Nuthatch (Cyril Hart Arboretum)

I ventured out to the other Cyril Hart Arboretum, the other part, than the one that has plenty of people. I only saw the usual birds, but they are beautiful. When it gets a little bit better, no more snow, I'll go to another place, like the New Fancy View.

New Fancy View under snow

I went to New Fancy, to see if the birds were alright. It was full of snow. And, it was a glorious feeling, like being a different person. I remember it, when I was tiny person, but nothing like this. So, I would take some photographs of it. Unfortunately, I got stuck, and the car. Luckily, some very nice people who helped me out. Thanks to all of them.

Wood Pigeon (My garden)

I didn't go out till 3.10pm, by which time it was too late. I went out to buy myself some petrol for the car. I still do as many miles as I would like; the price of petrol has gone down, but it doesn't seem to last so long. And, I hope that somebody will make the ultimate car, which is electric or something that is non polluting.

Happy in the snow

A woman from the Forestry Commission, hard work, playing with a snowball.
This one taken by my daughter of Arnold, that is what she calls him, and I didn't mean the cat!

Wednesday 4 February 2009

Cyril Hart Arboretum

It had snowed during the night before, and all the birds are hungry. The Pied Wagtail was quiet, and busy looking all around for some predatory beast. There wasn't one.
Long-tailed Tit. Beautiful bird.
Also there was the Great Spotted Woodpecker, he too was looking about.
And, the Blackbird, rummaged about with snow.

Collared Dove (My garden)

These were taken in the snow, not as bad (or good, whatever you might think), and behind a glass opening. A window. I had to be there, because it was freeeeeeeeezing! Oh, they were right, meteorologists, and for once they had to celebrate themselves.

Sunday 1 February 2009

Great Spotted Woodpecker (Cannop Ponds)

Here he is, tapping quite melodiously. It was very loud, so loud it was deafening. Its really beautiful.
It was a dull day, until 2.00pm when the sun came out. The weather person has said its going to snow, but, I don't believe it!
